ORL [13], JAFFE [9] and FEEDTUM [16]. The details of the datasets are summarized in Table 1. JAFFE and FEEDTUM datasets contain all facial expressions as mentioned in Sect. 1 while ORL have most but not all expressions. The images of JAFFE dataset were manually cropped. Further, images of all the datasets were resized to 50×50. Sample images from all the datasets are shown in Fig. 1. The experiments on all the datasets are performed by varying the number of images per person from three to nine as given in Tables 2-4.

The experimental results on JAFFE dataset are given in Table 3. The best performance is again obtained with EFLD. The performance of EDA increases consistently while this increase is inconsistent for all other methods. Further, EFLD is able to achieve 100 percent classification accuracy with 9 training images per person. The classification accuracy on FEEDTUM dataset is given in Table 4. The classification accuracy of all the methods increases with increase in the number of training images except FLD, Fisherfaces and EFLD.
